Deer cake

A deer cake for my dear little niece, Khaoula. Sometimes my nieces can’t really decide what kind of birthday cake they want next, especially since they got so many fulfilled wishes on their previous birthdays. When the time comes, I sometimes sit with them and together we scroll through photos of cute birthday cakes on my phone until one pops out. This time, Khaoula got excited when she saw this deer cake. Not just because it’s so adorable, but also because it’s the meaning of her name in Arabic, or so at least I’m told. Unlike the original cake, where the antlers were made out of cardboard, I decided to make mine out of modeling chocolate.

עוגת איילה לאחיינית הקטנה שלי, חאולה. לפעמים האחייניות שלי לא מצליחות להחליט איזו עוגה לבקש ממני ליום הולדת הקרב ובא, במיוחד לאחר שכבר הגשמתי להן מלא משאלות בימי הולדת קודמים. כשמגיע הזמן, אני יושב איתן לפעמים ויחד אנחנו עוברים על תמונות של כל מיני עוגות בטלפון שלי עד שמשהו מצליח למשוך את העין. הפעם, חאולה התרגשה מעוגת האיילה הזו. לא רק כי זה נורא חמוד, גם כי זה בעצם הפירוש של שמה בערבית, או לפחות ככה מספרים לי. בשונה מהעוגה המקורית, שם הקרניים עשויות מקרטון, את שלי החלטתי להכין מבצק שוקולד פיסולי.
