Gingerbread haunted mansion
After two weeks of travel in California during the month of October, I got into the spirit of Halloween and decided to make my nephew Youssef a Halloween themed gingerbread house for his coming 13th birthday. And what better than an actual haunted mansion, or in fact, a castle, to mark the haunting event? My model is based upon castle Leslie in Ireland. I knew, this was going to be a large project, unlike the previous gingerbread house I made him in the past. This time, I made about 5 kilos of construction gingerbread dough like I did for my Gingerbread Disney castle (same dough recipe). This time I used a vegan royal icing to glue everything together and it worked perfectly. The little decorations, like the fountain, tree, pumpkin and so on, I made out of modeling chocolate. I poured jelly inside the fountain to get a cool water effect. The windows were created using isomalt sugar, which is pure magic. The roof tiles are tiny thin pieces of tempered dark chocolate which took me more than four hours to assemble. My only regret was that I didn’t use a stronger light string to shine brighter from inside the house in a well-lit room.
