Go ahead, play with your food

I thought this cake would be a piece of cake, but boy was I wrong. It’s not easy to get perfect corners in a cake. I had to adjust and fix and flatten and so on… I also had to calculate the exact length of the squares to match the total length of the cake. After I finished with this very square cake, I moved on to create the pawns, or at least attempt it. I made them from chocolate, but I didn’t know how to temper chocolate back then. Needless to say, it’s hot in Jaffa. It was mid May 2015, and it was starting to get hot and humid. My plan was to create all 16 pieces, but it was such a hot mess that I barely got out with 7 pieces. Oh well, a shorter game means getting to the eating part faster, right?

חשבתי שהעוגה הזו תהיה עוגה קלה להכנה, אבל טעיתי בגדול. זה לא כזה קל ליצור פינות מושלמות בעוגה. הייתי צריך למדוד ולתקן ולשטח וכך הלאה… הייתי גם צריך לחשב את האורך המדויק של הריבועים שיתאימו לאורך הכולל של העוגה. לאחר שסיימתי עם העוגה המאוד מרובעת הזו, המשכתי להכנת כלי השחמט, או לפחות ניסיתי. הכנתי אותם משוקולד, אבל לא ידעתי איך לטמפרר שוקולד בזמנו. לא צריך להזכיר כמה חם יכול להיות ביפו. הכנתי את העוגה באמצע מאי 2015, ומזג האוויר התחיל להיות חם ולח. תכננתי להכין את כל 16 הכלים, אבל זה היה כזה בלגאן לוהט שבקושי יצאתי בשלום עם 7 כלים. נו טוב, משחק קצר יותר משמעותו שמגיעים לחלק האכילה מהר יותר, לא?
