Monster twins

One of my favorite cakes to date. It was made for my twin niece and nephew, Najwa and Jamal, back in spring 2014. They just turned 4. I found the inspiration somewhere online and made my own version, with two little green monsters on top, which are actually Kinder surprise eggs in disguise. Some years later, I entered the photo in an online cake competition, and won the judges’ choice award and a set of knives as a prize. You wouldn’t believe how stressed the delivery service was to deliver a set of knives to an Arab in the midst of a spree of stabbing attacks in Jerusalem. Too bad they weren’t that sharp.

אחת העוגות האהובות עלי עד היום. הכנתי את העוגה עבור האחיינים התאומים שלי, נג’ואה וג’מאל, באביב של 2014. הם חגגו יום הולדת 4. מצאתי את ההשראה איפשהו אונליין והחלטתי להכין את הגרסה שלי, עם שתי מפלצות ירוקות קטנות מעל, שבעצם מסתירות ביצי קינדר בתוכן. שנים ספורות לאחר מכן, השתתפתי בתחרות עוגות אונליין עם העוגה הזו וזכיתי בבחירת השופטים ובסט סכינים כפרס. אתם לא תאמינו כמה לחוצה היתה חברת המשלוחים למסור את סט הסכינים לבחור ערבי במהלך תקופה של התקפות ודקירות בירושלים. חבל שהסכינים לא היו כה חדות
